Abstract
In this contribution I will try to answer a fundamental and very complex question: does the conception of God as Esse Ipsum Subsistens risk a drift towards Parmenidean monism? The investigation will first focus on Aristotle’s overcoming of the Parmenidean vision and then will focus on the metaphysics of being of Thomas Aquinas which, if correctly understood, does not risk a drift towards ontological monism at all. In fact, some passages will be presented that demonstrate how the central concept of Thomas’ conception, that of participation, guarantees precisely from the risk of monism, provided that the presence of God in entities is understood not in a quantitative sense.
